Well, correlation doesn't equal causation but I remember seeing something about religious belief being less prevalent in areas with really high education levels. It's not saying that they're educated because they're not religious, but it tends to be a trend that high education equals less individuals holding religious beliefs. That's not to say that there aren't any though.

There's a whole bunch of different possible explanations for it, but I don't want to type them out tbh. Anyway, looking at a whole country you'd have to consider other variables like their economic status, general culture, etc. also.

Perhaps it's maybe not so much that a lot of these people are literally stupid but since they're uneducated they tend to not look in to things, particularly their holy book of choice. Perhaps they never look in to it enough to reason that none of it makes sense and even without the book the existence of god also makes zero sense.

We're in an age where a lot of us via the internet realize these things much sooner, not sure how to look at people who spend their lives taking everything how it's given to them and never questioning things.

I'd suspect it also has something to do with the relation between lower education and lower income also. If you're struggling through tough times because you can't get a good job, you're probably more likely to turn to some sort of higher power to give you hope that things will change. Like, talk to anyone who has success and they'll tell you it's their hard work that got them there (and a little luck). But if you talk to someone who's struggling, they often want to pin it on other things and look to something else to fix it for them. No always, but sometimes.

There's probably a bunch of shit related to that.

There's extremes on both sides, but to think one person describes the whole is fundamentally wrong. I know some great Christians, I know some asshole Christians.
