I'm speaking on a commercial level and even underground tbh....

I mean…what about all the MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice stuff, and all the No Limit stuff. You can't tell me that stuff now is worse than all the Master P and Silkk The Shocker and C-Murder albums. There's a whole decade of shitty Kid Rock albums, Kriss Kross, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Will Smith, and that's just stuff that I've heard. Then not to mention all the one album wonders that put out garbage for the rest of the 90's. Most of it was pretty terrible we just are so far removed from the 90's that we only remember the great stuff.

yeah i agree. i think dead prez kinda put it best when he said

I still think the 94-96 run is the best, and it makes sense really. Genres are at their best close but not exactly near their inception when just about everyone races to the top and there's a certain wish to get to that finish line and establish a canon. Not that I particularly think that those albums are better than their more recent peers but there's just so much MORE quality material overflowing in the 90s even if you don't particularly love them. I mean why do you think the boomers years for rock are overflowing with all those canon material, even though 80s might actually have the best individual albums.

I think it was just a little bit harder for shitty artists to put out their shitty music. There was still a lot of it, but not every idiot with a computer could flood the market with garbage.

Yeah I think this was pretty much the reason, but also I think we like to think more fondly of the past. I've heard some pretty terrible birdman shit from the 90's that is just as bad as anything today.

Just looked through some lists of great albums from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and the 80s list does look pretty hipsterish lol
