UK Hip-Hop star Ms. Dynamite has been charged with assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct, after being arrested for allegedly kicking the door of a London nightclub.
According to The Associated Press, the British bombshell (born Niomi Mclean-Daley) had been out celebrating her 25th birthday with her brother this past Friday, (January 6) when police allegedly spotted her kicking the front door of the West London club Paragon Lounge. Police say that Ms. Dynamite became abusive when officers attempted to question her.
After being taken into custody, the rapper allegedly punched a female officer in the face, bruising her nose. Ms. Dynamite's brother, 22-year-old Kingsley Daley, a London businessman, was charged with obstruction of police. Both were released on bail and scheduled to appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court for a hearing this Friday.
This is not Ms. Dynamite's first offense. She was arrested in 2004 following assault allegations stemming from an incident at a Chinese restaurant in London's Soho district, but those charges were eventually dropped and no further action was taken.
Ms. Dynamite won London's Mercury Prize for her 2002 album A Little Deeper and is well-known for supporting peace efforts; speaking out against gun violence in the U.K. and taking part in the London Stop the War rally. She is best known stateside for her single, "Dy-Na-Mi-Tee."
